Zombie Avengers #1 – Newest Team

Zombie Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes picks up after the events of the comic book’s last issues. It picks up almost immediately after Secret Invasion #2, which ended the original Avengers line-up. It has been a while since we’ve had this many team members show up in one issue, but Zombie Avengers does an excellent job of keeping their numbers up. Whether battling Thanos or each other, the Avengers are brought back from the dead in these final issues.

Zombie Avengers

The story starts with a bang as the Avengers are attacked by the Savage Land monsters. They’re attacked by the demons and an unknown aggressor who has taken control of the Savage Land. This guy wants to rule the world and bring it into his vision using any means necessary. The Avengers must work together to put a stop to his agenda.

One character that is especially exciting for a new reader is Neutrogena. Neutrogena was one of my favorites as an X-Man, and she’s even more adorable as a guest star in Zombie Avengers. She has a crush on Cyclops and becomes determined to help him save the world. She doesn’t know Cyclops has an arch-enemy trying to protect the planet. I like Neutrogena’s involvement because she provides some background for some of the Avengers characters, such as Ghost Rider and Squirrel Girl.

Zombies vs. Avengers pick up shortly after Secret Invasion, which leaves the Avengers pretty much defenseless against the hordes of Thanos. The Avengers are easily decimated, losing half their numbers. Wolverine, Dr. Doom, and Magneto try to rescue the others but are nearly defeated themselves. The villains are left with minimal choice but to retreat, leaving the planet without any defense against their weapons.

It’s inspiring for a die-hard Marvel fan to see the newest storylines introduced. Zombie Avengers is a fun series that I look forward to reading. It’s just one of the book industry’s better debuts since the Ultimate Spider-Man, Wolverine, and the X-Men. I hope the next series that Alias takes us on, “Deadpool and the X-Men,” will be better than the one they had to cancel. If they are, I’m going to wait for it.

Zombie Avengers is part of an interesting trend in the comic book industry. Not everyone is creating superhero teams with these types of titles, but that makes them so popular. We see these classic characters refreshingly brought into the modern-day. This is why I think the Zombie Avengers will last long. I can’t wait to see where the show is heading. Maybe we’ll finally see Professor X join forces with some of these Avengers characters.
